Expectations of Leadership Behavior

Leaders are constantly critiquing and assessing their team, and raising expectations of their own capabilities is imperative for setting a benchmark to enable successful leadership of their team. While key result areas are clearly defined within a leader’s job description, often clear leadership expectations within a leadership role are frequently less clear. A study by Gallup found that great leaders achieve success across industries by shifting their focus to the following 7 leadership expectations within their role.

Leaders are expected to oversee multiple responsibilities within an organisation. A study by Gallup indicated that leaders are 15% more likely to say they have multiple competing priorities. Clear expectations and accurate job descriptions can guide leaders to achieve a better understanding of how they should be allocating their time and which skills they should be continuously enhancing.

Actions that have been shown to be applicable to leaders across all sectors around the world, and consistently contribute to performance and success, reveal that there are an underlying set of qualities or traits that all great leaders possess. Approaching leadership development with a focus on key behaviours that strengthen teams allow critical expectations of  what a manager’s role needs to be achieving within an organisation.
